Reeves Middle School's goal is to develop GRIT in all students!
Every teacher at Reeves Middle School values student effort, responsibility, and academic achievement. Yet an overlooked quality, one that is crucial in achieving success in high school and in the real world, is GRIT. As we transition our curriculum into the Common Core State Standards and take Smarter Balanced Assessments, it is important for us to teach our students to persevere through frustrations and failures. Researcher Angela Duckworth states that grit "entails working strenuously toward challenges, maintaining effort and interest over years despite failure, adversity, and plateaus in progress." Reeves Middle School will be partnering with parents, students, staff, and the community to make a concerted effort to take students out of their comfort zones and teach them how to respond to frustration and failure. We want all of our students to develop GRIT.
