ASB Officers

Becoming an officer on the ASB team is hard work, but is very rewarding.  To run for an office, there is a few steps. Towards the end of the school year, if you are interested in running, you will get a packet explaining the steps and a form to turn in to show you have parent permission to run. In the previous year’s packets, these have been the requirements:

  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and a GPA of 3.0 or higher during the quarter prior to the election.

  • Turn in the permission form by a certain date and time.

  • Write a 1 -2 minute speech detailing why you think people should vote for you and your plans as an officer. The speech has a deadline and reviewed by the ASB Administrator.

  • There are certain days where you can campaign and put up posters. Handing out food items, buttons, or any sort of promotional material is not allowed. Also, no campaigning online before the time starts, such as on social media platforms. Posters have certain size guidelines and must be reviewed by ASB Administration before going up in the halls.

All of this may sound very complicated and strenuous, but in reality, it's quite easy. The speech you must write, which will be spoken in front of the school, is one of the most important parts. Here are some tips for writing your speech:

  • Practice the speech before you say it. It doesn’t need to be memorized, but it really helps to know the basics of what you’re saying.

  • In the speech try to act humble, but still include reasons why you think you would make a good officer. Some things that would be good to include:

  • Don’t criticize the school or others running harshly, as it can make you appear unsavory to the rest of the school

  • On the day of the speech wear something that makes you feel confident

  • Almost any speech is a good speech if it is spoken clearly, has enthusiasm and power behind its words, and is spoken with confidence

We ASB officers are proud of you for considering to run for office and believe you will do a good job in improving our school. Good luck!
