Reeves Service Club
Consider joining us! We have officially started for the 2016-2017 school year. Parents are welcome to help too! :)
We recently received an Olympia School District Education Foundation (OSDEF) grant for $500 to assist with our projects. Thanks OSDEF!
Have you ever felt that you could make a difference in helping the lives of others?
Want to connect with other leaders in our high school & community?
Want to get a head start on what colleges admissions are looking for?
Want to make our school and community a better place?
Where and when:
We meet Wednesday mornings during Opportunity Time in the band room (125). We will also spend time outside of the school day during the year with various projects at our school and in the community. Students won't be placed in unsafe environments and with many students helping, many projects can be completed with minimal time.
There has been a lot of excited people in our school and community identifying needs such as:
Helping with garden & outdoor spaces at Reeves & elementary schools
Improving our recycling and waste program at Reeves
Tutoring students at the elementary schools
Helping maintenance with Olympia Parks & Recreation at local parks (Mission Creek & Priest Point)
and many others!
Who we are teaming up with?
We are teaming up with the Olympia HS Interact club on some of their own projects such as International Night coming up in April. More information on this will follow. Possibly we might have sponsorship from the Olympia Rotary Club but current rules don't allow 11 year olds (6th graders) in their organization.
What colleges are looking for:
Interesting to note is that just recently (January 2016) colleges are now looking for community service as a major component to college admissions. This is headed up by over 50 major colleges such as Harvard & Yale. More information is at the links below

What have we done so far?
We've had a few meetings so far and we're waiting for weather to cooperate to start many of our projects.
Our first project, cleaning up the courtyard garden, is partly completed. In just 20 minutes, we removed 3 large trash bags of weeds and garbage and now are ready to figure out some better things to plant in here. We are currently waiting for good weather to plant new stuff. :)
Currently we are assisting Mrs. Weber with our annual canned food drive.
We will post more information here over the year.
You can still join, find Mr. Grostick for more information or email any questions
We're excited about the possibilities our students can do at Reeves! Thanks for reading this! :)
