6th Grade Technology

Focus on an introduction to technology tools and concepts that students can practice and then build upon for success in 6th grade and beyond. We use Google Apps for Education which students access through their student Gmail accounts. The course curriculum is designed to help 6th graders refine keyboarding skills, use digital tools to collaborate and communicate with others, practice good digital citizenship, and utilize technology to enhance and enrich their learning.  Students log in to their district account at Typing Club and practice keyboarding at home for one hour per week as homework in addition to the one hour per week that we practice in class.

NOTE: Students who meet or exceed the OSD standard of 35 wpm at 95% accuracy will not be required to practice keyboarding at home. This course is aligned to the International Society for Technology in Education Standards (ISTE).

7th/8th Grade Robotics

Focus on introduction to the idea of robotic engineering and basic programming through the use of the Lego NXT and EV3 robot and software platform. Throughout the course, students work with a partner in designing and creating various robots required to complete certain tasks. Students learn skills to work in a partner team and practice the prototyping and testing design process. The difficulty level of the programming and design increase as the course progresses.

7th/8th Grade STEAM Exploratory

Focus on computer programming and tech arts in a project-based format. In addition, students explore topics related to Geographical Information Systems, Robotics, and Pneumatics. Various hands-on projects related to the engineering process of prototypes and testing is integrated. Career connections are emphasized throughout this course.
