Principal's Message February 2018

A few RMS updates and reminders for February 2018


1. Reeves Musical.   Reeves has partnered with Apple Tree Productions to produce "Alice in Wonderland." We are very excited that we are able to offer this opportunity to all Reeves students this year.  Students do not have to pay to participate this year!

Key dates and information:

Participation packets (with a permission slip) are available in the main office and in the choir room.  Students are to turn in signed permission slips directly to Ms. Lins or to her office mailbox.

    ~ Feb 6—all interested students report to the cafeteria from 3:15-5:15 PM

    ~ Feb 7—auditions in the cafeteria from 2:15 to 4:15. All interested students will have a role.

    ~ Play practice is from 3:15-5:15 pm M/T/Th/F and 2:15 to 4:15 pm on Wednesdays.

    ~ Thursday, March 1st: prop set-up in the gym at 6 pm with rehearsal from 6:30-8:30 PM

    ~ Friday, March 2nd: Matinee performance (afternoon assembly) for RMS students & staff

    ~ Saturday, March 3rd: Matinee @ 1 PM; Evening show at 6:30 PM


To continue this opportunity next year, and beyond, our PTA will be collecting donations to both performances on March 3rd.  We ask that you pay what you can at the door with $5 as a recommended donation for each guest.  Reeves MS received a grant that allowed us to pay for the show this year.  Next year’s show will only be possible through PTA efforts to raise the funds needed for this event.  


2. The RMS Community Council is in need of a volunteer coordinator. The volunteer coordinator with work with our PTA president (Anne Gallagher) and the RMS Principal (Aaron Davis) to connect school volunteer needs with our parent volunteers.   Note:  All volunteers need to complete the on-line volunteer background check.  Simply go to the OSD web page, find the Community drop down button and select Volunteer.  Please call the school at 360-596-3400 and request to leave a message for Aaron Davis if you would like to serve as the PTA Volunteer Coordinator.  

We are always looking for more parents to participate in the Community Council meetings.  Meetings are on the following dates from 6:00-7:30 pm in the RMS Library:

Wednesday, June 6th

 

3. February 2nd is the last day of the semester and a ½ day for all elementary and

   middle school students.

 

4. The staff at Reeves Middle School is committed to fostering a Caring Community in our school.   All students have been reminded to use the T.W.A. method to resolve their conflicts in a healthy way.  They have been instructed to:

1. TALK.  Use clear, direct communication to state how they think or feel about the

     situation.

2. WALK AWAY.  If the situation isn’t resolved and is escalating, they should walk away.

3. ASK AN ADULT FOR HELP.


If your student is experiencing harassment, intimidation, or bullying (HIB) at school we need to know.  Please have your child fill out a witness statement located on the counselor’s door.  You can also call, write us a note, send us an e-mail, or call the school to alert us to any HIB.  We know that academic focus can only occur if your child is feeling safe.   Please reinforce the TWA conflict resolution procedure and communicate any problems to our school counselor, a staff member, or administration.  


5. Yearbooks are still on sale for $28 until February 2nd.  After that?  They go up in price, so order now!  You can secure your Yearbook by going to Jostens.com and then follow the instructions.  Simply click on Order Your Yearbook Today at the top of the page and then type Reeves Middle School.  Students receive the ordered yearbook in June, 2018.  

 

6. WINTER SPORTS: The winter sports season for grades 7 and 8 includes girls’ soccer and boys’ basketball.  In order to clear for sports, students and parents must complete all the forms in the sports information packet and pay the $60 participation fee. Practice typically runs from 3:05 to 4:50 PM with parent pick-up by 5:00 PM.  Note: Sixth graders will be allowed to participate in track in the spring.  

 

Upcoming Events:

January 29: Winter sports begin—Boys Basketball and Girls Soccer

February 2: End of 1st semester.  ½ day bell schedule for students.   See attached schedule.

February 5: Band Fieldtrip-- 7/8 band students to UW… all day event

February 8: Poetry Out Loud in the RMS Library from 7-8 PM      

February 15: OHS robotics students will be at RMS during OT in the cafeteria giving a demo and

                     answering questions about the robotics program at OHS.

February 16:  OT Assembly for 1st Semester Sports & Academic Achievement recognition

February 19 & 20:  NO SCHOOL


Saturday, March 3rd: RMS Musical Matinee @ 1 PM; Evening show at 6:30 PM
