Reeves RAMblings #1 for Sept 4-6
Greetings Reeves families,
Our first day of school is Wednesday, September 4th. Class begins at 9:20 each day.
-
The 24-25 daily schedules can be seen here. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, we will be on schedule A. Wednesdays we will be on schedule B.
Our A schedule will include Opportunity Time (OT); the B schedule is our district wide 50-minute early release day along with Advisory Time.
During the 2024-25 school year Reeves Middle School will have Off and Away handheld technology expectations:
-
Cell phones and wireless headphones are put away in lockers or left home.
-
Smartwatches are set to airplane mode, put away or left home.
-
iPads and other handheld devices are put away in lockers or left home.
These technology expectations have been in place at Reeves for the past five years. The biggest change this year is that personal devices will be put away in the student’s assigned locker for the entire day. Students will not be allowed to carry their personal devices. The purpose of these expectations is to create a learning focused environment without the distraction of personal devices. The shift to having personal electronic devices in lockers all day will increase engagement, reduce instances of bullying and improve student mental health.
In any emergency, parents may call the school front office to contact their students. Students may (with teacher approval) go to the front office to contact their family.
Every student has an assigned Chromebook for school-related technology usage. These devices are set to work with our district-wide filters, wifi, secure browsers and state testing platforms. Students with special accommodations will be allowed headphones/earbuds/phones to use as outlined in their IHP, 504 or IEP plan.
Please Note: Information regarding our discipline response can be found in the Reeves Middle School Student Handbook on page 11 under the heading ‘Electronics and Personal Property’.
Yearly Student Skyward Profile Verification:
At the beginning of each year, parents/guardians are required to review their student’s Skyward Profile Information and make any updates necessary. After logging into Skyward Family Access, click on “Required Yearly Update of Student Information” on the top left-hand side.
Strive for 5… Attendance Matters!
Welcome to or back to Reeves! I began in the Attendance Office in February of this year. I have loved my interactions with students and parents. I am so excited to be here for the beginning of the school year!!! I am continuing my efforts to ensure students are here every day. This year, Reeves is making a special effort to ensure that each and every student fully benefits from their education by attending school regularly. Student attendance is an essential first step for students to learn. I want you to know that our school is committed to supporting your students to attend and access their education at any level necessary. Your student’s future is our first priority and I/we want to partner with you to ensure their success! I am your ally and am here to help you navigate the middle school world of attendance. Many parents are not aware of how quickly absences add up. Too many absences, excused or unexcused, can keep students from succeeding in school and life.
Respectfully,
Mrs. Sarita Loya
Attendance Secretary for Reeves Middle School,
Ext 3411 or email @ [email protected]
