A few RMS updates and reminders for October 2017

1. I want to remind you to take advantage of FREE after school tutoring for students. This tutoring and homework club opportunity takes place every Tuesday and Thursday in the RMS library from 3:05 – 4:15 pm.  We have two high school tutors for all levels of math, and adult supervisors that can help in all subject areas.  The Brain Train is back in action this year and will take your student home each Tuesday & Thursday at 4:20 pm.  This activity bus drops students off at the elementary school closest to their home.   The 1st drop is at Roosevelt, followed by Madison and then the bus drops students at Boston Harbor.  If time permits, kids in Boston Harbor will be dropped off at their home since they are the last to exit the bus.

2. Please join us at our RMS Community Council meeting on Wednesday, October 11th from 6:30-7:30 pm in the Library!  Our RMS Community Council is a merging of our Site Council and Parent Connection (PTA) that serves all the students at Reeves Middle School.  This group needs more members to be the vibrant group that it is meant to be!

3.  We are fortunate to have a School Resource Officer (SRO) that truly cares about OSD students and wants to help parents understand on-line risks both at home and at school.  Officer Curtwright is hosting an Internet Safety Workshop for Parents of our 6th – 9th grade students on October 17th from 6:30-7:30 pm in the Washington Middle School library. Safety is our #1 priority in our schools and internet safety is a growing threat to our students well-being.  Please join Officer Curtwright on October 17th to learn about ways that you can monitor and protect your child.

4. Our fall conferences will be held at Reeves Middle School from Tuesday, October 24 through Thursday, October 26.  There will be an evening session on the 26th from

4-7 PM.   Monday, October 23rd is a regular school day.  Please note that students will be released from school at 11:30 am on T,W,Th & F.  The conference format will be student-led conferences.  Additional details regarding conference week will be sent in a letter on October 10.

5. The Olympia School District is pleased to offer free parent education workshops with Candyce Lund Bollinger.  Ms. Bollinger is a parent educator and private parenting counselor in Washington State and has been practicing for more than 35 years.
