6th Grade Art
This is a class designed for students to develop a deeper understanding and apply the elements and principles of art in their own work. Students will develop various skills and make connections to art, themselves, other people, and the world around them through exploring art history and the masters.
6th Grade Building Basics
This class is an introduction to our Wood Technology class. This course is designed to be a hands-on, project-based class in which students develop basic shop skills, a proper safety attitude, and basic skills in wood project construction. The course will focus around the concept of "learning by doing" and also follow the S.T.E.A.M. curriculum and safety procedures.
6th Grade Digital Communications
This class is an introductory digital design course. Students will learn how to use a variety of free software available on their chromebook to create print and video based projects. These projects are designed for students to demonstrate their understanding of design concepts, techniques, and technology.
6th Grade Peer Mentoring
This class provides a simple approach to help young teens improve their self-image, build friendships, resist peer pressure, achieve their goals, and get along with their families using the 7 Habits of an Effective Teenager and Character Strong curriculum.
7th & 8th Grade Art
is a class designed for all students to apply an understanding of the elements and principles of art in their own work. Through art history, students will make connections to art, themselves, other people and the world around them. Students will have the opportunity to explore and develop techniques through a variety of media including tempera, acrylic and watercolor paints as well as graphite, colored pencil, pastel, clay and printmaking.
Broadcasting
Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of journalism, audio and video production and broadcasting. Students will engage in hands-on experiences, use communications skills and develop strategies to learn the basics of video pre-production, production and post-production. They will learn to operate audio and video equipment and perform exercises to develop technical production skills, using editing software and computers to import video footage and audio tracks, edit, create titles, special effects.
CTE Wood Tech
This course is designed to be a hands-on, project-based class in which students develop basic shop skills, a proper safety attitude and basic skills in wood project construction. The course will focus around the concept of "learning by doing" and also follow the S.T.E.A.M. curriculum and safety procedures. Projects in this class will introduce students to the different aspects of technology through the use of laser engraving/cutting, C&C router and 3D printing by integrating design tools including Sketchup and Adobe Illustrator. This class will also be an entry-level course for individuals who are interested in basic technical drawing. Through lecture, research, hands-on activities, demonstrations and assessments, the students will gain basic knowledge, skills and abilities that will enable them to develop freehand sketches, pictorial drawings and mechanical drafting techniques.
Leadership and Yearbook
Yearbook students will help develop a plan for the structure of the yearbook, create spreads with overriding themes, take pictures of school activities and work together to produce our yearbook. Leadership students will learn about the qualities and characteristics that generate good leaders through our Character Strong curriculum. Committees will be put together to accomplish a variety of tasks, like creating and celebrating spirit days, creating posters to celebrate and recognize events, work in the student store alongside the PTA, school wide recycling program and others that the class will create together.
Robotics
Students will be introduced to the idea of robotic engineering and basic programming through the use of the Lego NXT and EV3 Robot, and software platform as well as Aerial Robotics, with the use of Drone technology and programming software. You will work with a partner in designing and creating various robots required to complete certain tasks. The difficulty level of the programming and design will increase as the course progresses. In addition to robotics, students will also practice the prototyping and testing design process: Engineering process and design, Team collaboration, Reflective learning, Problem solving, Basic linear programming, Structural Engineering, Environment Sensing, Computer Logic, Gear Ratios, Data Hubs and Wires, Drone Safety, Equipment Selection, Drone Flying, Programming automated drone, Programming Loops and Programming Switches.
